1. Start from a verified competency
Use the actual curriculum guide, approved lesson scope, and available learning resources. Do not manufacture official codes, authors, weeks, or references.
2. Separate the four dimensions
Knowledge names what learners will explain; Skills shows what they will do; Attitudes captures a learning disposition observable during the lesson; Values makes a socially meaningful principle explicit.
3. Align the tasks and assessment
Ensure students have an opportunity to demonstrate each relevant objective. A purely computational quiz does not directly measure cooperation or respectful listening.
4. Plan an observable check
Use a brief explanation or concept check for Knowledge, a worked problem for Skills, a reflection prompt for Attitudes, and an observation rubric for Values.
5. Review proportionality
Not every dimension needs a separately graded test. Use credible evidence and suitable formative methods. Validate the final plan before instruction.
Illustrative Mathematics 7 topic: integers. Knowledge — Explain what opposite integers represent on a number line. Skills — Solve three temperature-change problems correctly. Attitudes — Persist when the first strategy fails. Values — Listen respectfully to a peer’s solution and cite the evidence before disagreeing.
Teacher review checklist
- Competency/source checked
- KSAV objectives use observable verbs
- Learning activity matches each relevant objective
- Exit ticket assesses the intended knowledge/skill
- Values observations are authentic, not inferred from a test score
